@sky12066sed3 My third fear: being able to drive to all the places to which I drive with my car
(whose use I have drastically cut since 3 years ago). Nearly all the roads out of my house have no shoulder!
I just got fed up letting that scare me and keep me from switching off oil to an electric(-assist) vehicle,
powered by solar and wind (Viridian).
I (we, the country) cannot wait for cheap electric cars any more. I had to act now, as there will ALWAYS be a learning curve.

@sky12066sed3 I took this quantum step in my life because peak oil is behind us.
My first fear (when it arrives this week) will be to assemble it correctly.

Second fear: that it will fit me: I will need to replace the crank arm with the shortest possible crank arm.
My legs do not extend and flex fully, because I have 2 artificial knees.
I chose the more expensive Lithium Ion battery and the power-booster, since this trike will (hopefully) replace my car.

@sky12066sed3 You and upcycle rock! My extended family and I have done our part for animal rights and the environment by not reproducing and being vegan since 1980s, since those were the easy sacrifices, but I always feared giving up my car. I am proud to say that 2 weeks ago I overcame my fear and ordered my electric-hybrid tricycle from Omega Stores, after months of talking with different dealers and trying out a non-electric trike at a local dealer.

Incredible bike! Can someone please give me some tips about bikes? I’m wanting to get either an electric or motor bike to get around faster but don’t know which to get. Electric bikes I hear don’t go very fast but save $ over time and motor bikes are hard to build and require a lot of upkeep yet can fly down the street. I’m not rolling in $ but I’ve saved up some for a good one. I don’t know which to get, can someone give me advice? Thanks!

@sky12066sed3 Re: how many miles before having problems with hub motor…

It depends on which hub motor u r using. Which one (manufacturer/model r u using? It seems that a motor can go several thousand miles, typically, at minimum, before experiencing any problems. The battery on the other hand can have a limited life. Some of best 4 longevity, ATM, r the Lithium Ion Phosphate Polymers. And apparently best is Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, because they are safest and can get most recharges.

Upcycle, I have had my hub motor for a few weeks and it’s the best investment and most enjoyable thing i ever bought. I would like to ask you in your experience how many miles will it run before I have problems? I have riden it about 100 to 150mi so far on level roads and trails and it’s been awsome. Thanks and keep the wind to your back.

    Electric Bicycles

@BelchTycoon My experience is that most bicycle shops do not carry hub motors or batteries, unfortunately. Depending on what country u r in, it seems that most people have to order systems online. Another option is to see if you can find an electric bicycle club in your region of the world, and meet others who own/operate electric bicycles for ideas on sources and recommendations. Another possibility is look for people selling used systems on Craigs list to see about learning more / test riding

@upcycle Thank you for the suggestion. Would a bicycle shop have the items I would need to allow for an electric conversion?

@BelchTycoon Good idea to consider retrofitting ur cruiser with an electric hub motor system. You may find u want to ride it more than just to school twice a week.

Yeah, I could definitely use an electric system. I’m using a beach cruiser to ride 7+ miles to school, and back, twice a week. It gets a bit tiring but hey, it’s still not costing me in gas!

@459am And prices on electric technology is getting cheaper and cheaper all time. & safety factors r getting better & better. & development of electric interface standards r getting better. One advantage 125 dollar gas motor could b used 4 electricity generator on full electric power assist bicycle. This would b similar 2 how Chevy Volt is full electric, but it can not only get electricity from plugging 2 electricity source, it can also get it thru gas engine. there is market for micro generator

@459am which electric motor and transmission of energy to wheel did u use? which battery system/chemistry did u use?

electric motors and batteries, especially batteries, have mad huge improvements over the seal lead acid, Nickel/Cadmium, and Nickel Metal Hydride. Even Lithium battery chemistry/technology has improved significantly. The Lithium Iron phosphate being superior to even he recent Lithium Polymer. And even more recent developments in nano tech for super capacitors which will …

Buy a 66cc mortorized bicycle kit instead for 125 bucks . ILL never buy an electric bike again after trying a gas one. Ive spent thousands on electric stuff just to have the batterys wear out after a couple of years then go spend another thousand for a new one. All of my electric bike stuff is for sale cheap.

Thanks again for the advice on the forks, the bike I may try to use is an 84 Olympics Murrey that I leave at the beach in winter months,I will try that on for size and go from there. Thanks so much for your help, keep your back to the wind and have fun.
